Figuring the Tip at a Tampa Salon
By aBuzz on May 15, 2008 in Shopping
I recently got my hair dyed blonde for the first time at a South Tampa Hair Salon. Immediately after the dye job was done, I had my first "dumb blonde" moment. I was signing the credit card receipt for my haircut and I couldn’t figure out what the tip should be for the hair stylist who had cut and dyed my hair.
The thing is that I have always gone to fairly cheap salons where it’s customary to tip ten percent of the cost of the cut. However, the Tampa Hair Salon that I went to for the dye job was a nice salon. (Hey, nobody wants bad dye when they’re trying to go from brunette to blonde!) So I assumed that I should tip a higher percentage than normal but I wasn’t sure what a good rate would be.
I didn’t want to ask the Tampa Salon staff because I figured it seemed a little bit rude. Besides, I was sure they would only tell me that I could tip whatever I felt comfortable tipping. Ultimately, I decided that I should probably double the tip at a place like this and ended up giving the stylist about twenty percent of the cost of the salon charge.
Later I asked some friends if that sounded right and they agreed that it did. They also commented that it sounded like the dye job had gone to my brain!
