How a CPAP Machine Saved My Marriage
By Buzz on Jan 23, 2008 in Health
My husband is a snorer… And not a light one, either. In fact, he’s been sleeping on the couch for the majority of our five-year marriage.
It was a source of much frustration on both our parts. He’d wake me up with his snoring. And I’d wake him up to roll over. Then less than an hour later, he’d start snoring again. Eventually, he’d just grab his pillow and move to the living room. So imagine my surprise when he went to a doctor and found out he had an actual physical problem. I had no idea. Sleep apnea… He’s not even forty… he’s not obese… and he’s otherwise healthy (all risk factors for apnea).
The doctor sent him home with a sleep apnea machine, also known as a continuous positive airway pressure machine, orCPAP. The machine is equipped with a CPAP mask that attaches to the face and a portable device that blows air. This makes it much easier to breathe.
It took some getting used to, but after an adjustment period, he was sleeping like he’d never slept before. No more snoring. No more gasping for air. And no more sleeping on the couch.
