How I Made Money While Backpacking Through India

I had always wanted to backpack around India and at the age of 23, when I graduated from college, I thought there’s no better time than now. I bought a plane ticket, filled my backpack with a few clothes, passport, money and toiletries and hit the road. Arriving in New Delhi, I was immediately struck by the hustle and bustle on the streets and the open-air markets with their arrays of sweets and spices.
For about two months I bummed around taking it all in until I realized to my dismay that I had started to run out of money. I had made many great friends and didn’t feel ready to return back to the States so the only option left was to make some money to make ends meet for another month or so. I immediately applied to an outsource telesales company I knew of in the area. The job consisted of me speaking with customers from America. They mainly called with queries surrounding credit card transactions made through a company based in Texas. The inside sales company had hired on a separate outsourcing team in India to deal directly with the customers so they didn’t have to. I worked with this team under the close supervision of a telesales consulting group.
I found the job really pleasant because hearing the English was a refreshing change. After about two months at the job I had saved enough money to continue my adventure though India.
