How I Made Money While Backpacking Through India

I had always wanted to backpack around India and at the age of 23, when I graduated from college, I thought there’s no better time than now.  I bought a plane ticket, filled my backpack with a few clothes, passport, money and toiletries and hit the road.  Arriving in New Delhi, I was immediately struck by the hustle and bustle on the streets and the open-air markets with their arrays of sweets and spices.

For about two months I bummed around taking it all in until I realized to my dismay that I had started to run out of money.  I had made many great friends and didn’t feel ready to return back to the States so the only option left was to make some money to make ends meet for another month or so.  I immediately applied to an outsource telesales company I knew of in the area.  The job consisted of me speaking with customers from America.  They mainly called with queries surrounding credit card transactions made through a company based in Texas.  The inside sales company had hired on a separate outsourcing team in India to deal directly with the customers so they didn’t have to.  I worked with this team under the close supervision of a telesales consulting group.

I found the job really pleasant because hearing the English was a refreshing change.  After about two months at the job I had saved enough money to continue my adventure though India.

How Do I Know if My Employer Qualifies for Small Group Health Insurance

I work for a really great office in Miami that employs about 15 people.  Obviously, it is very small but we are a close knit group and I wouldn’t trade our camaraderie for the security of a big corporate Florida conglomerate.  However, the only area I would like to see improve is our benefits

Since it is a small office the owner cannot afford many benefits, however, one benefit I think needs to be reconsidered is FL health insurance.  Although, I didn’t know if our office would be qualified for any of the Florida group health insurance plans available.  So, I decided to do a little research online and I found that as long as we had enough participants and we met some other basic criteria we should qualify.  I was able to assist my employer in running some quotes and I think we have effectively convinced the owner to start a plan.

Having Florida health insurance is important to our staff and having a job that offers it has become increasing more important to me as my family grows.  Now that I know my job will include it, I don’t have to feel as though I am compromising the security of my family in order to keep a job I enjoy.

The struggle with grammar

As a student I often took the grammar basics for granted. My professors always said my ideas were strong, but my grammar needed work. One of the hardest courses of my college career was a class called editing essentials. The class revolved around sentence constructions and proper grammar usage. I struggled through and thought I retained most of the course, and then last week my niece put me to the test.  My niece is a freshman in college and taking an introductory grammar course, I could totally relate to her struggle.  We both sat down and tried to conquer pronouns together.

My niece goes to a community college and her college marketing and enrollment services helped select classes.  As a student, my niece can choose to take traditional classes on the college campus or attain online associate degrees over the internet. Either way there are a core group of grammar classes no student can avoid. In the age of the internet grammar has become lost. Between emails and text mails our language has been morphed down to a code of simplicity.

As a student of language, I appreciate the complexities grammar. I’m sure as I apply for master degree programs online , I’ll encounter more grammar issues, and be thankful I did.

A Fun School Assignment

I’m in my senior year of high school, and I have to tell you one thing: most of the homework is mind numbingly boring. I mean seriously it feels like it’s nothing but memorize then regurgitate or busy work. Well I had an assignment last week that was kind of cool, and it actually made me think about my future.

The assignment was to write a paper where you take something you like to do, like a hobby or something, and turn it into a profitable enterprise or career. So I thought about it a lot, and couldn’t come up with anything. Then while I was at the golf course practicing (I’m on the golf team), it was like that whole proverbial “ding” thing where the light bulb comes on. I should be writing my paper on a golf career. I can’t believe it was sitting right there in front of me the whole time!

So like the good student I proclaim to be, I actually did some research. Believe it or not, there are golf colleges out there. Who would have thought? My parents really want me to go to college, but I just have not been motivated about the whole thing. But suddenly, now that I know that there are golf schools out there, I’m all pumped up about the idea.

Turning Passion Into Great Business

Art and the love for art run in my veins.  My dad, although a lawyer by profession, is musician by heart.  My mom is a full time painter and has had put up several exhibits.

I think I inherited my mom’s creative juices for painting.  But I guess it is my having been born into the information age that I am more inclined towards digital arts.

I like doing my graphic illustrations using Adobe Photoshop.  One of my teachers in college saw my work online and commissioned me to do graphic designs for the university magazine.  That is where I got much exposure and since then demands for digital art services began to trickle.

Today, I even sell some of my graphic arts on CD.  I had them nicely packaged and professionally labeled using a cd labeler.  Thanks to the declining cost of tech gadgets I was able to buy a cd printer at a much lower cost and now I can do cd printing as easily as I print documents on paper or a picture on a photographic paper.

It is really a nice feeling when you do the things you love doing and earn your living from it.
